What are the match rules for Age of Empires II?

1.1 Match Procedure

  • Tournament Teams
    • A “team” will consist of 1 Player. Multiple teams from each eligible institution will be allowed to participate in the tournament.
  • Set Length
    • All tournament sets will be played best-of-3 games.

2.1 Game Rules

  • Patch: All Games will be played on the current patch available on the Live Service. The version of the game these games will be played on is Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition.
  • Game Setup: Players will need to communicate via the Vanta platform to exchange usernames and add each other as friends so that a custom match can be created. The “Home” team will create the lobby.
    • Lobby Name: Use the name provided in the email from Vanta.
    • Visibility: Private
    • Players: 2
    • Allow Spectators: No
    • Hide Civilizations: Yes
    • Server: Choose the server that best works for your region.
    • Game Mode: Random Map
    • Location: [Insert Chosen Map Name]
    • Map Size: Tiny (2 player)
    • AI Difficulty: Standard
    • Resources: Standard
    • Population: 200
    • Game Speed: Normal
    • Reveal Map: Normal
    • Starting Age: Standard
    • Ending Age: Standard
    • Treaty Length: None
    • Victory Conditions: Conquest
    • Lock Speed: Yes
    • Allow Cheats: No
    • All Techs: No
    • Turbo Mode: No
    • Full Tech Tree: No
    • Record Game: Yes
  • Map Bans: Please follow the format below for picking the maps for the game.
    • “Home” team bans a map first.
    • “Away team bans two maps.
    • “Home” team bans one map.
    • “Home” team will then select a map to be played game 1.
    • “Away” team will then select a map to be played game 2.
    • The remaining map will be used for the if-necessary game 3.
  • Map Pool: 
    • Acropolis
    • Arabia
    • Arena
    • Fortress
    • Kilimanjaro
    • Nomad
    • Scandinavia
  • Civilizations: 
    • Players must only draft from civilizations that they have access to in the game.
    • The “Away” team will have the first pick of civilizations for the first game, then the “Home” team. They will then swap for the second game, then for the third, if necessary game go back to the Away team picking first.
    • Opponents cannot pick the same civilization for the same game.
    • After winning a game, you cannot use the same civilization again in the match. You can only use the civilization more than once if you lose the game prior that you used them in.

3.1 Restrictions

  • Mods
    • No third party mods are allowed for official Vanta competition.
    • If an opponent uses a mod, please report to support@vanta.gg so that a forfeit loss will be awarded to the team that used the banned character.

4.1 Reporting

  • Score Reporting Format: Scores will be reported in “Win/Loss” format. Teams will indicate the number of games won by each team, final scores should be one of the following: 2-0 or 2-1
  • Forfeits: Forfeits will be considered a 2-0 win for the team that showed up to play.
